RealFi Office Hours #6
TradFi traditional finance
補足DeFi(分散型金融)と対にして使われます。
hardening
コール中では「quite boringly called hardening(ずいぶん退屈な名前ですが hardening といいます)」と紹介されました。 この回の CEO は同じ言い方をもう一度使っています —— 第三者による評価について「to be quite boring about it, it's what traditional TradFi does(退屈な話ですが、これは伝統的な金融がやってきたことです)」。
CCTP Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol
Circle(USDC の発行体)が作った、チェーン間でトークンを移す仕組み。
LayerZero

The technology is done; what is holding mainnet is a queue on the TradFi side.
And for the first time in this archive, the order in which losses hit was spelled out.
What this session covered
The engineering is finished. What's holding it is paperwork that can only happen in order.
Earlier sessions said “hopefully next month” (the GTM call on 6 August). This one is more specific.
So approximately, I think mainnet date's gonna be mid-September. We will give a firm date as we close out some of the items that we've got in basically in the next two weeks.
And then a breakdown of what is done and what isn't. Everything left sits on what he calls the TradFi side.
TradFi traditional finance
Banks, brokers, exchanges, regulators — the financial world that predates crypto, as crypto refers to it, and the counterpart to DeFi. addedWhat matters here is that TradFi work moves through paperwork, review and human judgement. You cannot write it in parallel and ship it in one go the way you can with code. That is what the “long, long list of dependencies” is made of, and why the engineering being finished doesn't put anything on mainnet.
The registration has to reach the exchange before the account setup even begins — which is why these cannot be run in parallel.
Hardening
Running the production path with real money. addedWhat separates it from testnet is that failure costs something. Problems test funds never surface — per-venue deposit and withdrawal limits, wallet behaviour, actual fees — only appear here. Introduced on the call as “quite boringly called hardening.” addedThe “boringly” is self-deprecating: this is not a launch or a new piece of technology, just pushing real money through every venue, wallet and withdrawal path to see what breaks. He reaches for the same register later — third-party valuation is, “to be quite boring about it, it's what traditional TradFi does” — using boring for things that are unglamorous but long since proven. It is modesty, not dismissal.
The point of the Liqwid design is that you take part without selling your ADA.
Two things were named for the Cardano launch.
Both are to be added to testnet shortly, so they can be tried with test ADA and test USDR first.
A points system and season will carry over to mainnet, particularly around these two venues.
On wallets, Lace is the primary partner — though “it's a native token, so you should be able to hold it anywhere.” The work with Lace is a dedicated swap-in, swap-out and stake experience. addedThe host mentioned he has Lace installed and “can't even link my main wallet,” so how finished that experience will be at launch is not established on this call.
The first time the order has been stated in this archive — with the speaker's own caveat attached.
This answers Participant A: what protects USDR and sUSDR holders if one of the credit assets defaults? Previous sessions repeatedly left the contents of the stability fund and the peg stability module undescribed. Here, the order is given.
“We do have a transparent subordination, seniority level over who gets hit when.” The design was likened to Ethena's.
addedEverything below was written here. None of it was said on the call.
The explanation contains a shift of tense. The equity buffer is first described as “money that I've raised specifically to provide coverage” — past tense. Moments later, explaining that ② isn't available on day one, the reason given is “which is why, you know, going to raise equity for that, for that first part” — future tense.
And the whole answer opens with “I can't, like, fully confirm this, but shortly I will be able to.”
Since ② is confirmed absent at launch, if ① is also unfunded, then ③ — marking down sUSDR — becomes the first real absorber for any early loss. The order would be unchanged; what changes is how much gets absorbed before it reaches a holder.
One number: the size of the equity buffer, and when it is paid in. Neither the amount nor the timing is given on this call. Nor is it said whether the buffer falls within the third-party attestation the CEO argues for in section 6.
He flags the uncertainty himself. This is a number to ask for next time, not an inconsistency to hold against the answer.
The design where EVM growth grows the Cardano balance.
Asked by Participant B whether RealFi runs on Cardano or is its own chain or a fork, the answer was unambiguous: “It runs directly on Cardano.” USDR is a native asset, visible on Cexplorer.
This is the implementation detail behind the GTM session's line about a dollar minted on Ethereum still counting toward Cardano TVL.
CCTP Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol
Circle's mechanism for moving tokens between chains. addedThe key property is that it burns on one side and mints on the other rather than locking. That avoids the vault of locked assets most bridges accumulate — “creating a honeypot,” in the CEO's words — and therefore the target that goes with it. He credits the USDCx bridge with making this much easier.
LayerZero
Shared wiring for carrying messages between chains. addedIt is easily confused with a bridge, but it sits a layer below one. A bridge is one service that moves a token; LayerZero is the substrate for delivering “go do this on that chain” instructions, of which moving a token is a single use. Because it already connects a large number of chains, wiring into it once reaches everything else wired into it.
For RealFi it is the replacement. addedCCTP is Circle's mechanism, so it works across the chains and assets Circle supports; LayerZero lifts that constraint. The CEO says they “architected everything so that it's easy for us to switch out that messaging layer” — the migration is designed in from the start. On LayerZero's own arrival, though, he offers only “my understanding is that it's coming towards the end of the year” — reported, not asserted (see the Q&A).
The AlphaGrowth proposal passing was also noted. addedThis is the PRIME proposal recorded as “in voting” after the 26 July episode (item 17 in shared/open-questions.md). Its passage is confirmed here. With the investment AlphaGrowth can now coordinate across Cardano projects, the CEO reckons “we've got a really good shot of really building some DeFi TVL.”
Start on Cardano, grow on EVM, come back to Cardano.
On looping: “where this goes really badly wrong is if the underlying asset is volatile.” addedThe 8.5% and 5% quoted are hypothetical — “this is not a promise of return” in his own words.
The question deferred to the investment team on the GTM call. Answered here.
On 6 August this was parked with “I am not a private credit professional.” This time the answer goes further.
The pricing itself is simple enough: price it off the actual coupon, then discount by expected losses in the portfolio. The problem is what comes after.
The crux is that a fund administrator isn't a specialist in hard-to-value assets. A globally traded CLO ETF or a T-bill is trivial for them; this is not.
A firm providing verification to several real-world-asset products was mentioned in this context, with those products having recently paused redemptions. addedThe name was given tentatively — “I think it's called, like, Accountable” — so it is not a firm identification. Recorded here as the event, without naming the firm.
You need to do some actual work to be able to go and value this stuff. It's not just like a dashboard and asking people to fill out a survey.
The host asked for this again “for the benefit of the summary.” It's an extra layer of accountability.
Asked what he's most excited about for RealFi, the CEO said vaults — defined as “programmatic digital funds.”
Vault and its curator
A vault manager (curator) is responsible for the parameters and strategies; LPs come into the vault. addedWhat matters in the call's framing is that this is presented as an accountability layer, not a distribution channel. The curator sets parameters so only good assets get added, and watches that leverage doesn't run away. In the CEO's words, “a really important credibility check for us.”
Not an unqualified endorsement: “I wouldn't say everything's always gone right in vault world” — but they were set up to solve some of the nonsense DeFi produced, and are “definitely an improvement.”
The other thing he's excited about is conversations with “real businesses” — outfits with dollar flows over short-ish periods looking for extra economics during that window. Remittance businesses, or the example he gave: a furniture factory with dollars sitting across several accounts, using this as treasury management. “The market's much bigger than just people chasing yield in crypto.”
It started from noticing that growing dollar balances were being used for almost nothing.
He came into crypto via Michael Parsons, then chairman of the Cardano Foundation, in a coffee shop in Northwest London — “a slightly strange older man that was trying to talk to me.” Having read the Bitcoin paper and the Ethereum white paper was met with “Oh my God. Thank God.” At the Foundation he was head of strategy and head of ecosystem, doing early marketing and narratives and the community setup.
The idea for RealFi came from watching balances grow through his work in Africa — Bitcoin, Ethereum, then USDT. But the only uses he could see were getting out of a trade, and borrowing against Bitcoin to buy more Bitcoin.
We've got these huge and growing balances of dollars — what else could we do with it? … No one had really built this bridge to be able to go and start using that capital to access assets outside of crypto.
Combined with fixed income opportunities offering a solid risk-adjusted yield in both emerging and developed markets, that became the plan. He also mentions that he didn't want to set it up — he tried to persuade someone else to be CEO, and “unfortunately, it didn't work out that way.”
Hyperliquid came up as the reference point: as it adds real-world assets, it produces volumes you don't see at some of the world's largest traditional exchanges. He credits DeFi for 24/7 settlement, everything being programmatic, and being able to use your positions as collateral in other positions — and positions RealFi as something similar but “maybe more useful for normies.”
How the pieces of this call connect.
The right column is the timeline; the left is what holds it up. The new information in this session is on the left.
Questions from the chat and the form, and what came back.
Participant AIf one of the credit assets in the portfolio defaults, what protects USDR and sUSDR holders?
The loss waterfall in section 3 — with the caveat “I can't fully confirm this, but shortly I will be able to.”
Participant AWhat's the minimum amount of ADA required to earn rewards?
Not disclosed, because anti-sybil and anti-farming measures are in place and publishing the threshold “only makes it easy for people to farm.” Acknowledged as “a bit trust us, bro” — with the assurance that “any good faith actors will be fine.”
Participant CWhen sUSDR sits on an exchange in an open position, is it earning yield — and does that yield increase the position?
Depends on the exchange. Some CEXs yes, some no, some will only hold the unstaked version and expect the rewards paid to them. He then called this “basically the key use case that I'm trying to close”: holding sUSDR on an exchange and using it as collateral against other positions while it accrues — “a killer use case of NAV-accruing collateral.”
Participant DCan more SPOs get involved in supporting RealFi?
Taken by the host: a case is being built for what that looks like beyond mainnet, worked through with product and marketing and submitted to the CEO. “It's not signed off, so it's still in progress.”
From the formWhat challenges does USDR face across countries, and what entity structure gives the best global reach?
“It's less about the structure and more about what you're trying to do.” Decide the activities first. On the CLARITY Act — “it was delayed again recently” — the framing was that the fight in the US between crypto firms becoming banks and banks resisting that is “not really about us.” He is not interested in reshaping the product for one jurisdiction, and accepts that some geographies won't be appropriate.
What didn't get answered, and what was withheld deliberately.
Noted hereThe size of the equity buffer, and when it is funded.
The order of loss is given; the depth of the top two layers is not. Since ② is stated to be absent on day one, the size and timing of ① determine what protection actually exists at launch (see the collapsible in section 3).
Participant AWhich CEXs? Will USDR meet MiCA or GENIUS requirements?
Listings: explicitly can't say. On MiCA and GENIUS: “we're not currently looking to support that standard, for a whole bunch of reasons” — the reasons themselves are not given.
Noted hereIncentives for testnet participants — roles, badges and so on.
The host is discussing it with the team and submitting ideas. “I'm not gonna confirm anything.”
Participant CAs a builder, what is the current state of LayerZero?
On RealFi's side: “we basically architected everything, that it's easy for us to switch out that messaging layer.” On LayerZero itself, only “my understanding is that it's coming towards the end of the year” — nothing on whether a builder can use it today.
